GST Updates

Expanding your business across state borders just got significantly easier. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Network has introduced a game-changing feature on the GST Portal: Multi-State Registration in One Go.

Designed to cut down bureaucratic delays and administrative overhead, this feature allows businesses operating under a single Permanent Account Number (PAN) to apply for GST registration across multiple States and Union Territories (UTs) simultaneously.

Key Highlights of the New Multi-State GST Feature

  • Simultaneous Applications: Taxpayers seeking registration in more than one State or UT can now initiate and manage their applications together. Currently, this facility is exclusively available for Normal Taxpayers.
  • Master TRN Generation: A dedicated “Multistate Registration” tab is now live on the homepage of the GST Common Portal. Selecting your required States/UTs here generates a single Master Temporary Reference Number (TRN).
  • Unified Information Entry: Using the Master TRN, applicants submit the Common Registration Information (CRI) only once. This covers core details such as:
    • Business Details
    • Promoter / Partner Details
    • Authorized Signatory & Authorized Representative
    • Goods and Services Details (Note: The Master TRN must be submitted within 15 days of generation).
  • State-Specific Customization: Once the CRI is submitted, individual TRNs are automatically generated for each selected State or UT. Common data flows seamlessly into each application, remaining fully editable. Applicants only need to add state-specific requirements, such as:
    • Principal Place of Business (PPoB)
    • Additional Place of Business (APoB)
    • State-Specific Information & Aadhaar Authentication

Business Benefits: Why This Matters

  • Zero Repetitive Data Entry: Gone are the days of filling out identical promoter, business, and product details from scratch for every single state expansion.
  • Promotes Ease of Doing Business: By drastically reducing the time and effort spent on compliance paperwork, businesses can scale and establish physical or virtual locations nationwide much faster.
